Celebrating May’s fundraising heroes

Not only were we spoiled with some glorious weather in May, but we were also treated to a month full of fabulous fundraising from our incredible supporters.

There’s truly never a dull moment for our team here at GNAAS – our fundraisers have been out and about across the region, connecting with communities, collecting donations, and hearing some truly heartwarming stories from our supporters.

Let’s take a look back at just some of the amazing people and events that made May so special…

A flying start
We kicked things off with a visit to Eshott Airfield Café, where we picked up a very respectable £302, which the staff raised over Easter Sunday.

The team there have kindly taken in a collection tin and even offered us a stall at future events – we’ll be sure to keep an eye out for those dates!

Generosity from the Isle of Man
Our dedicated volunteer Brian had a very busy month representing GNAAS over in the Isle of Man.

First, he attended a presentation at Peel Charity Shop, where we were honoured with a mind-blowing £30,000 donation. An absolutely staggering amount, thank you so much to everyone involved.

Later in the month, Brian also visited the team at Sovereign Trust, who raised £274 through a Easter office egg hunt, games, and dress-down days.

They’re already looking at future fundraising and we can’t wait to see what they do next. A huge thanks to Brian for holding the fort and ensuring our presence is known and felt on the Island.

A victory indeed

In May, we were thrilled to be invited to Doris Hetherington’s VE Day celebration lunch, which raised an impressive £1,100.

The food, the decorations, and the efforts put into the party were phenomenal.

Thank you to everyone who came along and supported this fantastic event.

Cooking up support

Fundraiser Deborah had the pleasure of attending a cheque presentation with Val Elliot, who organised a ‘Batch Lady’ cooking demonstration in Langholm.

People must have been hungry for it, as Val’s demo raised over £4,000 for our life-saving service… simply amazing.

And hey, we’re open to sampling some of that cooking, Val.

Louisa’s London Marathon mission

A round of applause for Louisa Burton, who ran the London Marathon for GNAAS in an impressive 4:26:57, raising £2,117!

We invited her over for a base visit, where she brought along her medal (which we think definitely deserves to be shown off) and some family members, too.

Paramedic Laura was honoured to give everyone who attended a demo with our critical care bags.

The mighty Old Codgers Club

In Penrith, we received a lovely £500 donation from the Old Codgers Club, who presented their cheque at a gathering of local charities.

Our volunteer and ex-patient Catriona shared her moving personal story with the group – a truly emotional moment that reminded everyone why our work matters so much.

Knitted ducks and crème eggs

A special shoutout to the ladies from the Fulforth Centre, who raised £1,300 through coffee mornings and selling adorable, knitted ducks filled with crème eggs.

Who can say no to cute ducks and tasty chocolate?! Huge thanks to everyone involved who helped to make their events both sweet and successful.

To each and every person who supported us this month, whether you donated, organised, attended, or cheered us on, thank you. We simply couldn’t do what we do without you. 💚

Until next time, here’s to more fundraising adventures ahead.
